Pilgrimage to Fátima
A Fully Arranged Camino with Casa da Lima
5 nights – 6 days from Coimbra to Fatima
Join us on a five-day pilgrimage to Fátima, walking one of the most breathtaking sections of the Camino from Lisbon – Fatima – to Santiago de Compostela. Many pilgrims who walked to Santiago de Compostela via Fatima, say that the stretch from Coimbra to Fátima is the most beautiful part of the entire route—winding through peaceful countryside, historic Roman paths, and quiet dirt roads. Casa da Lima happens to be right along this ancient trail!
Walk in the Footsteps of Portuguese Pilgrims
Every May and October, thousands of Portuguese pilgrims make their way to Fátima, arriving in time for the sacred processions that commemorate the apparitions of Our Lady of Fátima. Witnessing the candlelit prayers and songs at night is truly a goosebump-worthy experience. The square can house more pilgrims than the Vatican! Can you imagine?

An Unseen Path—Now Made Easy for You
Outside of these special dates, few people walk this path—simply because it is not well-known to foreigners, and finding food and accommodation along the way can be difficult. There are no albergues, few restaurants, and limited lodging options in the small villages, especially off-season.
Well, at Casa da Lima, we take care of everything, so you can focus on your journey without stress. Ask fellow pilgrims what caused their stress on their caminho, I know by now it is thinking about a roof over their head, make reservations, book or walk quickly so you are the first to come. Only few dare to go without preparing their stays.
Where do all the Portuguese pilgrims sleep you may ask? What I saw on my caminho’s, is that they walk in large groups of more than ten people. They sing, pray and a large truck is accompanying them with food, drinks and all their luggage. At the end of the day they will sleep in gymnastic halls, or at the Bombeiros, the fire brigade. Do as the Portuguese do and walk organised in a group. Our group is only much smaller, only four pilgrims can go together, which makes this an intimate and ‘quiet’ experience!
Step Back in Time in Portugal’s Heartland
Walking through this region feels like traveling to an ancient, simpler time. Life moves at a slower pace here. The locals are welcoming, and if you tell an elder in one of the villages, you are a pilgrim, be ready for long conversations! If you mention Fátima, doors open, and you may even get invited in for a chat. When it rains in winter, reach out and they surely let you shelter.
In village cafés, you’ll see men enjoying their morning beer, while others gather after lunch over coffee. You’ll pass by fruit vendors, men who sell fish from their van, and bakers delivering fresh bread—if you spot a car full of bread or fruit parked near the church, be sure to grab some!
When you arrive in Fatima, you could go to praying or procession. Every hour you could attend one.
Casa da Lima – Your Home on the Caminho
Walking light makes all the difference! No need to carry a heavy backpack—just bring a small daypack with water, snacks, and a few euros. With 10 kilos on your back, you walk 10 km less, So without this heavy burden, you could walk 10 km more, or just enjoy the caminho with more energy and go for all the nice things waiting for you, like Roman excavations or castles on a hilltop. Enjoy every step!
With Casa da Lima, there’s no need to carry a heavy backpack! Walk freely, knowing that all your belongings will be waiting for you at the Casinha da Lima, where you’ll stay for five nights. Each day, we’ll pick you up where you finish and bring you back the next morning—so you can focus on the journey, not the weight on your shoulders.
For groups of two to four pilgrims, our cozy Casinha da Lima is the perfect resting place.
If you’re two, you may share the house with one or other pilgrims on their way to Santiago. The communal dinners make the experience even more special! If you’re four, the room is all yours! Read further for more details about this unique caminho to Fatima.

For those seeking more challenging adventures, we offer tougher walks too. One of our most demanding routes The Dolina’s of Sico, has two options: a strenuous 8-hour walk covering around 23 kilometers, or a shorter circular walk of 17 kilometers. I have to admit, we always split the route in two and walk it in two days. With the heat and the length of the day, it was not possible for us to do that in one day.

Walk by yourself
If you like to walk and be on your own without all the local insights and a guide, You could also walk by yourself. Follow the routes in our Vale de Sico. Plenty of PR routes and the GR 26 route is a beautiful route of almost 200 kilometers around our location. See the map below. Casa da Lima is the blue dot right in the middle of this great path.
