Welcome

Bem-vindos a todos

Casa da Lima is centrally located among many of Portugal’s must-see attractions, yet nestled in an oasis of tranquility. As a tourist, you’ll be spoiled for choice with numerous World Heritage sites, beautiful beaches, and significant Roman excavations all within an hour’s drive. To fully enjoy these sights at a relaxed pace, we recommend spending at least three days exploring this area: Coimbra and its historic library, Tomar and the Templar Castle, Alcobaça and Batalha, Beach Nazaré / Figueiro da Foz, and as an extra, just 15-minute drive there is a large excavation of a Roman village called Conímbriga with in Rabacal a 5-minutes drive, the mosaics found on the floor of a Roman house.

Healthy & Happy Food

If you’d like to join us for dinner, let us know. With our organic produce and culinary skills, we do our best to have a satisfying meal you won’t regret.

For breakfast, we could prepare something for a small fee. We could also put it in a paper bag, allowing you to either take it with you on your journey or enjoy it at your own time and pace. You will start your day Healthy & Happy.

For Sale: Recipe Cards

Healthy & Happy Without Diets is the name of a book I published a long time ago in The Netherlands. Now I made recipe cards of our dinners we cook for you and we still use the slogan Healthy & Happy, since this is where we stand for. If you are interested in a booklet with a bunch of recipes, just ask us. With a little bit of love, time and patience you could prepare it at home too!

For Sale: Hand Painted Porcelain Coimbra Region

My friend the Chief Pilgrim gave me a shell before I walked the caminho. Inside he wrote: “A tartaruga é mais rápida que a lebre.” He once got this present from a restaurant owner when he was soaking wet resting outside the restaurant. When I saw this tartaruga, turtle handpainted on the souvenirs we offer you, I had to buy this particular one for future lebra, ‘hare’ pilgrims. You will cherish it more than all the other stuff in your backpack. It will set your caminho pace over and over again.

Guests and pilgrims really liked our pen with the Santiago shell and the pillow in a shell form. So we bought more of them. Some pilgrims bought the sardine magnet bottle opener. Ask us, we could have them too for you! On our small touristic days out in Portugal we find nice Portuguese stuff for you. The little store is getting somewhere!

For Sale: Spice Mix for Your Next Meal

With the dishes we cook, we use our own carefully crafted herb and spice mixes. Perfected to suit our taste, these blends are a hit with our guests. They contain no salt, so you add that yourself when you are cooking.

In Portugal, spice mixes are hard to find in supermarkets, so having these custom blends is truly a gift. They’re convenient and easy to use—just add a spoonful or two to your dish, and you’ll create delicious meals like:

  • Chili con/sem carne
  • Dutch mashed potatoes with vegetables
  • Guacamole dip
  • Indian Tandoori Chicken
  • Tikka Masala
  • Tajine
  • Bobotie

For baking enthusiasts, I’ve even created three special spice blends for Dutch treats like Speculaas cookies, pepernoten, and for apples in a pie. Take a look in our little store and see which dish you’d like to cook next! Together with our recipe booklet you see above, you can’t go wrong with your home-cooked meal.
