Start Early 8:00
I am so cold, that I reheat the hot water bottles at night and 7:00 I jump out of bed, I need to get out of this cold old house quickly. To Fatima! The end of this caminho.
TO my surprise, internet is working this morning, yesterday night, it didn’t work. I book a bus first. I give myself an hour longer than Google maps says I need and I leave.
Getting water from the water well is not so easy. Here in Portugal people still use these water wells and pump water from the ground.
Report Last Caminho Day
On Google maps I could choose different options, and it starts very heavy. Steep roads, going up and down. It is a nice way up but I can’t see more than 30 meters further because of the fog, Strangely the road is not ending. It is going up, up, and up… I would have the most fantastic view when it is clear, I am sure. But now I walk seeing nothing more than a small part of the street. The last village before Fatime Sao Marmede is nice in the sun! I finally take the only nice pictures of the day. Not a destruction photo but a nice house and church.
There is also a bakery and they have a lot of nice pastries. It means they have electricity here. I buy fried dough balls. Kind of what we eat with new year. With this I am going to surprise the home front, where they are still without electricity and home made warm food since storm Kirsten.
I enter Fatima via the West. Interesting to see this side, not pretty at all. I see the Burger King, which is very central, and the bus station. And there I wait an hour for my bus. The Rede Expressos drives on schedule. As if nothing happens!
Almost back in Coimbra.
