Casa da Lima is conveniently located next to several hiking paths, allowing you to start your adventure right away. As soon as you leave our garden, you’ll be greeted by olive trees and nature. One of the paths leads to Conímbriga, one of the best-preserved Roman ruins in Portugal (see the first pictures below).
This beautiful Long Roman Walk goes all the way to the Roman village, one of the biggest Roman village in Portugal. It is about 15 kilometers one way. You could enter Conímbriga to see the large village outdoors, and the museum indoors. There are picnic tables at Conímbriga, a great restaurant and a museum store.

The pilgrims path to Santiago is also passing, as well as the pilgrims walk to Fatima, the holy city in Portugal.
We met some pilgrims on our way, who were stuck in a little village. They called us and told us they didn’t have a lot to do. The hostels and places to stay have been closed lately due to the Corona-virus, so they now stay where they are, and were happy to talk to us.
The next pictures show a valley between the big village where we have to go for groceries, to the market, bakery and school. Biking is difficult here around Conímbriga, it is too rough and steep.
Some pictures of our walk will give you an idea of the beautiful environment around the place where we stay. We walked for fourteen kilometers. No regrets, look at the beautiful views.
Cinta decided that she needed a rest. She walked seven to eight kilometers, Jaap-Willem carried her for the remaining distance. Still, a deserved break for her small legs.
It is nice to see this waterfall in winter, because – hard to believe – it will be dry when summer arrives!
We walked this path to the waterfalls and Conímbriga for the first time in the first Covid-lock down spring 2020. Now a few years later, they have worked on the route to the waterfalls. A nice path and more security. Now it is safe and an easier path than it was back then.
