De Visser & Kho say Hallo
In 2019 Jaap-Willem de Visser & Ay Lin Kho, embarked on a new adventure moving from The Netherlands to the beautiful landscapes of Portugal. Joined by their three-year-old daughter, Cinta they drove through Portugal -with bicycles- to Portugal. Discover their story and get to know them here on this page.
Ay Lin about Jaap-Willem:
When I first met Jaap-Willem in 2011, he was a project manager for large finance-IT projects at Finext, in The Hague, Netherlands. He studied science at the Technical University in Eindhoven but ended up with a Master degree in business from Erasmus University in Rotterdam.
Beyond his professional life Jaap-Willem is an avid badminton player and a passionate cook who loves spending his weekends at the market and in the kitchen. In his small ‘herb garden’ in The Netherlands, he just had some small herb boxes and grew bean sprouts, lemon grass and other small things. Unfortunately there was never enough time to really nurture it fully.
This changed in Portugal! Jaap-Willem transformed from a computer-bound professional to a relaxed gardener who sings while cultivating vegetables, shiitakes and trees. He shares this joy with our daughter Cinta who enthusiastically help us out in the garden and around the house.
Jaap-Willem about Ay Lin:
When I met Ay Lin, she was living and working in Beijing, China with extensive knowledge on healthy nutrition. This is what she studied at Wageningen University, The Netherlands. In China she wrote a book about people’s health, mind and nutrition: Healthy & Happy Without Diets. She published it all by herself and sold more than 1200 copies of the Dutch version Gezond & Blij zonder diëten. A real achievement.
Ay Lin eats healthy, runs weekly and plays beach volleybal. She was such an inspiration that I immediately stopped smoking and adopted a healthier lifestyle. And with success: I lost ten kilos and I don’t touch a cigarette anymore.
In Portugal she pours her energy into building a new life. She is the author of all our Portugal blogs.
