Short Walk: Stick to the Plan?!
Today is a short walk. However, Willeke doesn’t believe that the distances we wrote down are correct anymore because every day we walked 2-5 km more. We’ll see what today will bring.
Every day it is getting a few degrees warmer and it ends in the weekend with the highest temperatures above 30 degrees. The whole week Willeke really likes to walk more today, to walk less the last day tomorrow. Because our Day 5 is the last walking day and it gets really hot. Day 6 we are heading home. The route today is to the beach, but tomorrow morning we need to go back to the city Aljeizur. That is actually another day’s walk.
There is a little problem, when you walk further than the town, than you will not have a place to sleep anymore.
We stick to the plan. That is what we said two years ago a lot. Walking a caminho, you can change the plans every time, but if it is not necessary, why change? I would just continue the path that we set out at the start. Or actually the website I read panned the caminho and I agreed!
Beach Carrepateira
As soon as we see the beach we go in for a dive. Refreshing. There are some beach cafe’s and we sit down to drink something. It is a surf walhalla here. The young are pooring shots in them like there is no tomorrow. While we order our drinks and take the first sip, they have three shots already. When we just want to leave, I hear something like a liter of water pooring on the floor. Willeke observes all, and she really sees it falling from the girls mouth to the floor… Time to go quickly, and a nice warning story for Cinta, my 9 year old.
City Carrepateira
We are not there yet. I thought we had reached our end goal but the city is still a walk further. In the heat we continue.

Where to Sleep Tonight?
I didn’t reserve a place to sleep for tonight. Yesterday Willeke searched and she was so happy with the Eco-Camp that she found something similar. I called them yesterday, They said all was full but he still had a wooden house in the garden, the garden has chickens and other animals walking around Well, fine with me, if they are outside and we are inside… I got the locations and instructions.

Eco-Camp?
We go to the location, and we see a restaurant, that will be our restaurant for tonight. Willeke reserves. Necessary? No I guess not, Portugal is empty… The waiter, doesn’t write things down, it will be good. Those foreigner that like to reserve… Cuckoo!
We find a farm with an awful lot of clutter and the chickens clucking around and the geese screaming so loudly that we dare not walk through. Willeke wants to leave immediately. I call Klaus but he doesn’t answer my 5 calls. Then I call the Eco-camp and I talk to a woman who says she will be there in 20 minutes. Willeke is getting more nervous and I call her again, to see if she is almost there. Her husband Klaus will come in a minute.
Willeke found the lagoon already with some naked people in it. Now I am getting nervous too, but we wait for Klaus. There he coes, he apologises, he was asleep. He wants to show us the lagoon, no need for the lagoon anymore, up to the wooden house.. WIlleke and I look at each other, and we don’t need words, we need to go. We will walk back to the hostel in town.
A.L. Sol
Willeke starts to call some other places. One has space, it has a swimming pool and tennis courts, and the price was €200, Willeke replied that it was higher than our budget. The person asks what her budget was. I just wouldn’t respond but Willeke bluntly answered €50. Haha. Well in the meantime, I called the hostel, there is space and we have an hour until 19:00 to arrive. but there appears to be one near where we stand. Only €60, for the both of us. The name is Sol. We have a whole house with garden, and kitchen again.
The restaurant is next to it, so we will have a nice fish dish later after we fresh up.
